When people in Santa Cruz, Silicon Valley, Monterey, Carmel and the San Francisco bay area want to experience the unique and invigorating sounds of a Caribbean/Latin dance band they call BROKEN ENGLISH.
BROKEN ENGLISH delivers a good time to all occasions because it draws upon the entire universe of Latin and Caribbean influences for a sound that is powerful and very danceable.
A live performance by BROKEN ENGLISH amounts to a refreshing musical journey that transports its audience on a virtual vacation around the Caribbean islands. From Puerto Rico to Cuba to the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Belize, Trinidad, Tobago and Brazil, we even stop off in Miami for some salsa fusion. The BROKEN ENGLISH repertoire balances both Spanish and English lyrics so skillfully, that crossover appeal is all but guaranteed.
The unmistakable sound of Puerto Rican salsa reflects but one facet of the versatility BROKEN ENGLISH brings to any performance. "We cover a lot of musical territory," says leader and music director Javier Muniz.
BROKEN ENGLISH draws upon Cuban traditions of rumba, mambo, cha-cha-cha, guajira, son and timba. From the Dominican Republic, the group revels in the infectious sound of merengue. Jamaica brings a taste of reggae. Beliz contributes the distinctive punta sound. Trinidad and Tobago delivers the sound of soca. Brazil is unique for its Samba and Colombia brings in the cumbia. BROKEN ENGLISH does it all and more.
The instrumental mix of acoustic and amplified guitar, piano, bass, sax, trombone, trumpet and the full range of Latin percussion: drums, congas, bongos, and timbales, combined with the wonderful talent of our two lead singers provide the delicate and delicious blend of a musical spice that is BROKEN ENGLISH.

Club Performances
Broken English has been performing in clubs all over the West Coast for over a decade. We'll bring a party to your place, and we're experienced professionals who are very used to the realities of club work.
Parties
We can bring the house down, or provide quiet background music for your celebration. We can provide a complete sound system, and optional recorded music between sets.
Concerts
Broken English has performed at concert events up and down the state of California. We've played for large outdoor and indoor audiences at festivals and fairs.
Weddings
As with parties, we can provide any kind of musical environment for your wedding reception. We're familiar with the details and execution of various wedding traditions from many different cultures.
Studio Work
The members of Broken English are experienced studio musicians. The whole band or just part, we can provide solid, dependable players for your recording project.
Instruction
Want one or more teachers of Caribbean music styles for you or a group of students? We can provide instructors for vocals, rhythm section, and horn sections. Several band members work as teachers in local school districts.
